William White was baptised in Wotton Underwood in Buckinghamshire on 19 Nov 1809. By 1836, he and his wife Mary Ann (nee Cobden) were living in Whitechapel. He was a Master Tailor and by 1866 was also the sexton at St Mary's Church, Whitechapel. William's brother Benjamin also moved to Whitechapel, where he worked as a corn dealer and corn chandler. Benjamin was married twice.

By 1919, at least one of William's descendants had moved to West Ham.  

The White family includes connections to the names Brooks, Da(v)idson, Cobden, Drew, Fletcher, Gale, Gibbs, Gillson, Gostelow, Hollands, Jarvis, Ladyman, Lucas, Newton, Oldaker or Oldacre, Phillips, Plater, Pryke, Ricketts, Rook, Selman, Smith and Winterbourne.
