Mary Ann Cobden was the wife of William White. She had been born in Singleton, Sussex, and was baptised there on 14 June 1812. Her ancestry has been traced back to 1644 and is shown in the chart below. The information in the chart is based on research by a distant cousin and by another Cobden researcher. This researcher is putting any Cobden entries he finds in a database and can be emailed by clicking here. The Cobden family have a tradition of using maiden surnames as given names. Examples include Whittington, Winterbourne and Ladyman. This tradition has survived to the present day. Mary Ann's brother Joseph Whittington Cobden moved to Buckinghamshire where he married Mary Ann Winterbourne. At least one of their descendants emigrated to Ontario in Canada. Another moved to Ohio but had returned to Buckinghamshire by the time of the 1881 Census. Click here to read about William and Mary Ann, and some of their descendants. Go to the home page. |
